Hello!
My name is Ryan Crane and I have the great opportunity to work alongside Mr. Van Wyck and Mr. Louie as a teacher intern. To start with, let me tell you a little about myself. I am very fond of the Edmonds area having grown up in the community. Whether building sandcastles in the infield dirt as a childhood baseball prodigy, or carefully navigating its streets while learning to drive, Edmonds has been home to me. My memories take me back to my time playing sports with Sno-King Youth Club, to running around the Taste of Edmonds with my friends as a 5th grader, and to busing tables at Anthony's Homeport on the waterfront.
My decision to go into teaching began at the University of Washington where I originally studied psychology, but my fear of both math and animals changed that path after being in a statistics and animal laboratory class in the same quarter. While I love psychology, a change in course toward history instilled a passion and energy for learning that I hadn't felt in a while. This energy, combined with my experiences coaching middle school boys and girls athletics, inspired me to pursue a career that combined two areas of my life that bring me such joy.
For the last couple years I have worked my way through Western Washington University's Master in Teaching program learning how to guide students through subjects from World History to Geography to Economics. As I spent time with Mr. Van Wyck and Mr. Louie discussing and preparing for this year, I was both relaxed and inspired by their extensive experience working with prospective teachers like myself, as well as their plans for working together to make this year great for the students. As if that isn't enough, I am collaborating with another teacher candidate who will be an incredible resource for me.
Four years ago, when I felt a strong pull toward teaching, I couldn't have imagined a better scenario to start my journey than the one that has been given to me at Edmonds Woodway High School.
I'm grateful for this opportunity and am excited for the experiences that lie ahead for the students and myself.
Best,
Ryan Crane |
